Our Story
Dahlia4 has been developed by New Zealand based natural supplements manufacturer Lifespan NZ Ltd, in collaboration with the University of Otago's neuroscientists.
With a passionate team of hard-working kiwis beavering away behind the scenes to bring this revolutionary product to consumers.
Our journey of discovery
Recent studies have shown that lifestyle modifications such as regular exercise and a healthy diet, as well as through medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), can support healthy glucose levels. While the pancreatic hormone insulin supports normal blood sugar levels, over the past 20 years, the idea that the brain is actually a key factor in the process has been explored, and exciting new research findings in this area give us a new target to support healthy blood sugar balance¹.

The function
The hypothalamus is a small region located at the base of the brain and has a crucial role in supporting glucose balance in the blood through its effect on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and the endocrine system. It contains specialized glucose-sensing neurons that detect changes in glucose levels and support glucose metabolism and feeding behavior. The hypothalamus helps in supporting glucose balance and feeding behavior accordingly.
The science
Along with his research team at Otago University, Professor Tups has discovered a natural substance derived from plants that promotes optimal brain circulation and supports blood sugar balance. His team’s work over the last 10 years has culminated in the research, development and patent of Dahlia4 (DE-BIS276®). The research is supported by various organizations, including Return on Science, Maurice Wilkins Centre, Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund, and the German Research Foundation.

The power of flowers
The cultivable and non-toxic plant molecule they discovered in the dahlia plant has been combined with two additional plant molecules to enhance the effect of the original one. From their laboratory at the University of Otago, Dr Tups and his team have selected and propagated only the very best plants, with the correct characteristics, to produce Dahlia4 (DE-BIS276®), the world’s first research-backed dahlia extract.
